Holkar Cricket Stadium history, significance, and boundary length

Indore, an Indian city, boasts the Holkar Cricket Stadium, formerly known as the Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground. In 2010, the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association renamed it in honor of the Holkar Maratha dynasty, which once ruled over the region. This stadium is known for its compact size and has hosted a variety of international cricket matches, including 6 ODIs (in 2006, 2008, 2011, 2015, 2017, and January 2023), 3 Tests (in 2016, 2019, and 2023), and 3 T20Is (in 2017, 2020, and 2022). Additionally, it has been the venue for 9 IPL matches.

The Holkar Stadium’s playing field is relatively compact, featuring square boundaries that measure just 56 meters in length and straight boundaries that measure 68 meters. In contrast, Indore city boasts another cricket stadium known as Nehru Stadium, which was used for international matches until March 31, 2001. Holker Stadium can accommodate approximately 30,000 spectators and is equipped with floodlights for evening matches. In comparison, Gwalior’s Captain Roop Singh Stadium, another international cricket venue in Madhya Pradesh, is slightly smaller than Indore’s Holkar Cricket Stadium.
