David Coulthard was left stunned by the comments made by Yuki Tsunoda after he was retained by AlphaTauri
Bursting onto the big stage in the wake of an effervescent preseason, Yuki Tsunoda made a foray into his debut Formula 1 season with colossal expectations accorded on his shoulders.
The driver was envisaged to be one of the bright sparks this ongoing season, someone who could end up with a slew of strong finishes with AlphaTauri. However, Tsunoda far from delivered with him enduring a raft of crashes in the first half of the season to throw his future with the team go up in the air.

However, AlphaTauri decided to repose faith in Tsunoda for the F1 2022 season as well with the side deciding to retain him for next year as well. It was a move which left Tsunoda surprised with him opening up about how he was certain he was on the verge of being ousted from the side owing to his lacklustre showings.
Tsunoda spoke about his crashes, how they were costing the team not only on the circuit but financially as well as he spoke about his contract extension prior to the Italian Grand Prix.
“The first half of the season was quite inconsistent, so also from my side I was a bit surprised I’ll be staying for next year.
“Because I just keep crashing and spend lots of money for the team,” Tsunoda said.

While Tsunoda’s honesty has been appreciated by ardent viewers of the sport, ex-F1 driver, David Coulthard has been unimpressed. Coulthard has been perplexed with Tsunoda’s choice of wordings with him claiming those were never the statements a true F1 driver to make.
Coulthard was so perturbed by Tsunoda that he advised him to pack his bags and head for the exit door.
Coulthard was left dumbfounded by Tsunoda’s words, saying they were not those of a racing driver.

“‘I’m shocked they could retain me because I keep crashing’.
