Manjrekar has once again managed to court controversy with his statement on Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin
There are perhaps few commentators in the world of cricket more hated and berated than Sanjay Manjrekar. The old Indian cricketer and now turned commentator has managed to induce incredible furore in the ardent cricket supporters in the country owing to his unwarranted statements.
Himself a languid and dreary player, Manjrekar hasn’t allowed his dismal form as a cricketer to refrain him from making outlandish statements on players. Often going overboard with his criticism, Manjrekar has been silenced in style with the most notable incident being of Ravindra Jadeja.
However, Manjrekar has refused to learn from the backlash he’s faced over the last couple of years. His decadent nature has seen him continue making deranged statements with the freshest being a swipe at Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
Sanjay Manjrekar Questions Ravichandran Ashwin And His SENA Record
Manjrekar vs Ashwin started when Manjrekar said that he is irked when people call Ashwin as one of the all time greats of the game. Despite Ashwin going onto accrue 409 wickets in 78 test matches, a tally which included 30 five wicket hauls, Manjrekar refused to be sold on the spinner.
Manjrekar hit out at Ashwin’s record outside of India to slander him.
“When people start talking about him as being one of the all-time greats of the game then I have a few problems. One basic problem I have with Ashwin is that when you look at SENA countries, Ashwin doesn’t have a single five-wicket haul there,” Manjrekar told cricinfo.com.
Bemusing enough , Manjrekar decided to use Jadeja’s name to try and defend his stance. Manjrekar claimed that Jadeja had matched Ashwin’s bowling performances across the last four years and even went onto claim that Axar Patel was capable of picking up wickets in Indian conditions.
Manjrekar’s fresh distasteful comments have seen him being ridiculed once again with Indian cricket lovers leaving no stone unturned to call out the commentator. Ravindra Jadeja had recently spoken about how his sword celebration during the bygone ODI Cricket World Cup was aimed at Manjrekar who had termed him as a bit and pieces cricketer.
