However, Congress national spokesperson Supriya Shrinate’s abusive remark, posted on her Instagram account, about her candidature left everyone angry and Congress shame-faced. On Instagram Shrinate posted Kangana’s photo along with the caption,

Kya bhav chal raha hai Mandi me koi batayega?

Within no time, the post went viral and has gotten numerous responses.

In a prompt response to Shrinate’s tweet, Ranaut denounced the use of disparaging language and urged everyone to treat women with respect. She underlined how crucial it is to maintain dignity regardless of one’s circumstances or job. In her tweet, Kangana wrote,

Dear Supriya ji, In the last 20 years of my career as an artist I have played all kinds of women. From a naive girl in Queen to a seductive spy in Dhaakad, from a goddess in Manikarnika to a demon in Chandramukhi, from a prostitute in Rajjo to a revolutionary leader in Thalaivii.

Kangana added,

We must free our daughters from the shackles of prejudices, we must rise above the curiosity about their body parts and above all we must refrain from using sex workers challenging lives or circumstances as some kind of abuse or slur… every woman deserves her dignity…

Amid mounting conflicts, Shrinate released a statement explaining that the offending message had been taken down and blaming the posting on illegal access to her social media accounts.

Who is Supriya Shrinate?

Supriya Shrinate is an Indian politician, currently associated with the Indian National Congress (INC). She has been in the news because she erupted the controversy by posting an offensive post targeting Kangana Ranaut.

She was born on 27 October 1977 in Mahrajganj, Uttar Pradesh, India. Her father’s name is Harsh Vardhan, a former MP from Congress. She did her master’s at Loreto Convent, Lucknow. Later, she graduated from Lucknow University with a degree in political science. Subsequently, she earned a Master of Arts in History from the University of Delhi.

Supriya Shrinate is married and her husband’s name is Dhirendra Singh. Her husband is working for a financial insurance company.

She is currently 46 years old.

Her career

With eighteen years of experience in print and digital media, Supriya Shrinate began her career as a special correspondent for India Today in 2001. She went on to work as an assistant editor at NDTV in 2004 and as chief editor of news at ET Now in 2008, where she also held positions as executive editor and policy editor.

Transitioning to politics, she resigned from her executive editor role in ET Now to contest the 2019 Indian general election, representing the Indian National Congress in the Maharajganj constituency, where she faced defeat, securing 5.91% of the vote.

Later, in 2019, Supriya Shrinate was appointed the All India Congress Committee’s spokesperson. She actively participated in TV debates and the 2022 UP Assembly Elections. In 2022, she also became the Indian National Congress’s Chairman of Social Media & Digital Platforms.
