Daniil Medvedev vs Hubert Hurkacz
World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev was beaten in the ATP grass-court final for the second time in a row by Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in Halle on Sunday.
Medvedev had few answers as he was defeated in 64 minutes by Hurkacz, who won with a score of 6-1, 6-4. The Russian suffered his second straight crushing defeat in a final, having fallen in straight sets against Tim van Rijthoven last Sunday. Hurkacz won his sixth career victory, but his first on grass, after reaching the Wimbledon semi-finals last year. The 25-year-old beat Australian firebrand Nick Kyrgios in three sets on his route to the final in Halle before outclassing Medvedev.
Marcel Granollers/Horacio Zeballos vs Tim Puetz/Michael Venus
Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos won the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle on Sunday, holding off a thrilling late comeback from Tim Puetz and Michael Venus.
Granollers’ crashing forehand return winner provided the magic needed to break the tie late on OWL Arena, where the top seeds won 6-4, 6-7(5), 14-12 in a thrilling championship encounter to claim their first grass-court title as a team.
With a 5/0 lead in the Match Tie-break, Granollers and Zeballos appeared to be on track for a more comfortable conclusion to a tight match. However, home favourite Puetz and New Zealander Venus fought to force two match points of their own at 10/9 and 12/11, respectively, before Granollers saved the day.
