While racing around the famous Monaco track, the 24-year-old appeared to lose control of the car as he approached La Rascasse, falling backward into the barriers and damaging the car’s rear end.
Leclerc remained still in the cockpit for a little while before slowly exiting the accident and driving out onto the main straight with smoke billowing from the back end.
When Leclerc exited the truck, a pair of marshals joined him for a brake examination. And Leclerc subsequently stated, “I lost the brakes.” I misplaced my brakes! I slammed on the brakes, the pedal was stiff, and the car slid to the floor. I was fortunate to have it at that time because it would have been useless if I had it somewhere… The issue is that I was terrified. I came in the corner as usual.”
Fortunately, his only apparent damage is a bruised ego, and he afterward made light of his predicament on Twitter.
“When you think you’ve got your fair share of bad luck at Monaco. You lose the brakes entering rascasse with one of the most legendary vintage Ferrari Formula 1 vehicles,” he remarked.
It is hoped that this is the last of Leclerc’s poor luck and that he can return to the track with as little disturbance as possible.
