The Indian-origin British filmmaker’s movies have grossed more than $300 million at the box office, with the Bend It Like Beckham being the most successful of the lot, having grossed around $67 million all across the world. Chadha’s new movie will be developing under the banner of the Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, which has been headed by Sean Bailey.

Gurinder Chadha hails from Nairobi, which is the capital of Kenya. Her parents were also born in Kenya, but the family had to shift to the UK after political instability and the eventual independence of the East African country.
Takar Devi, Gurinder’s grandmother, went to India with five of their children in order to find husbands for her daughters. Chadha’s grandmother, a Sikh, was forced to leave the family home in Jhelum, India, with her five children during the partition.
Chadha was raised up in the West London’s Southall and attended Clifton Primary School as a child. She later studied developmental economics and politics at the University of East Anglia.
