Who is Guenther Steiner?
Guenther Steiner, an Italian-American motorsport engineer and former team manager, was born on April 7, 1965, in Merano, South Tyrol, Italy.
Steiner held the positions of managing director at Jaguar Racing, director of technical operations at Red Bull Racing, and team principal at the Haas Formula One Team from 2016 to 2024.
Steiner studied engineering, but he left without finishing his degree and relocated to Belgium, where he worked as a technician for Mazda Rally Team Europe in the World Rally Championship from 1986 to 1988.
When Krzysztof Hoลowczyc and Steiner won the European Rally Championship in 1997 while managing Prodrive’s Allstar Rally squad, Steiner was hired as a project manager by M-Sport in 1998. He worked with the Ford World Rally Team with drivers Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz after being appointed as director of engineering in 2000. In the end, he achieved back-to-back runner-up finishes in 2000 and 2001.
In 2001, Steiner made the move to Formula One after being named new team principal by Jaguar Racing, Ford’s official full-works team. After Red Bull Racing acquired Jaguar Racing in November 2004, Steiner was extended an invitation to join the team. Opel’s desire to withdraw from the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters at the end of 2005 was the primary factor in his choice to rejoin the Milton Keynes squad.
After leaving Red Bull, Steiner stayed in Mooresville and established Fibreworks Composites, a manufacturing company, in January 2009. Due in large part to his frequent profanity during his appearances on the Netflix series Formula 1: Drive to Survive, Steiner gained notoriety at Haas for his direct demeanour. He released a book titled “Surviving to Drive: A Year Inside Formula 1” in 2023 that detailed his experiences.
