According to various sources, the latest entry to the GTA franchise will feature lots of new changes like a vast but familiar map, unique protagonists, plotlines and much more.

Grand Theft Auto GTA 6 release date

Game developers Rockstar Games, first confirmed that the “next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway” back in February 2022 via an official Newswire post. Later in June 2022, Rockstar Games shared an official statement revealing how they are investing all of their resources towards developing GTA VI. However, both these announcements did not give a clear release date.

As such, fans have had to rely on other sources for the release date. Chris Klippel, a famous GTA leaker, stated that GTA 6 won’t release before the last months of 2024. Meanwhile, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier also state the same in a separate Twitter thread. Considering all the available information, the expected release date for GTA 6 is late 2024 to early 2025.

Per Tez2, a reliable source stated that the release date reveal might occur during the GTA 5 10-year anniversary. Interestingly, there’s also a chance that GTA 6 just might make a surprise release in May 2023. This is following Brian Zampella’s Instagram post where he was seen wearing a Hawaiian tee shirt, surrounded by Palm trees.

Some obstacles causing a release delay was the COVID-19 pandemic, and the internal conflicts at Rockstar Games. Moreover, there was a massive data breach on September 18, 2022. The breach leaked over 90 GTA gameplay videos and pieces of the game’s source code.

However, Rockstar Games soon made a statement revealing that while they are disappointed by the leak, their “work on the next Grand Theft Auto Game will continue as planned.” Many players also suspect that Rockstar Games is trying to milk the success and popularity of GTA 5 before releasing GTA 6. GTA 5 still brings in a huge revenue and this isn’t surprising as well.

GTA Online has maintained its long-term success in large part due to the microtransactions it brought to the franchise in the form of Shark Card virtual currency packs and despite the controversial nature of microtransactions, GTA 6 is sure to continue these record profits by including this form of them in its online mode.

The game is estimated to be built on a cost on $250 million.

GTA 6: characters

So far, there have sixteen games in the GTA franchise but only two of these titles, the first two GTA games, featured playable female characters. Male characters have seemingly dominated every other edition of the game.

However, GTA 6 will reportedly feature a female protagonist named Lucia alongside a closely related male lead called Jason. Lucia will be the first female lead playable character in GTA’s history. Moreover, it also means that Grand Theft Auto will feature two main characters that will progress together throughout the story.

Bloomberg further claims that the new playable female character is a Latina and the couple will be possibly stylized in Bonnie and Clyde’s image, an infamous American criminal couple notorious for their bank robberies.

As such, the characters could even have a shared inventory and feature a switching system. All of these claims were confirmed in the GTA 6 leaked gameplay footage of September 2022. There are currently no official images of Lucia from Rockstar, however, fans have come up with some. Hossein Diba a character artist compiled leaked GTA 6 gameplay and generated 3D renders of the characters. The final images are very lifelike and could well be a well generated image of Lucia.

GTA 6: story/plotline

Currently, Rockstar Games have not revealed details about the story/plotline for GTA 6. However, Tom Henderson, a game leaker revealed that GTA 6 will take place in modern-day Vice City. There are some rumors that Lucia and Jason will supposedly build a drug empire together in Vice City. Aside from these, there are no other information as of now.

GTA 6: gameplay and graphics

GTA 6 will reportedly feature a list of new gameplay features besides better graphics:

  • Improved movement and driving
  • Better hand-to-hand combat
  • Improved gunplay
  • New gameplay mechanics
  • New items like painkillers, lockpicks, USB drives, etc.
  • Revamped Police
  • New weapons and Inventory
  • New Game Engine
  • RDR2 Screenshot
  • Extraordinary Water Physics

GTA 6 possibility of a Multiplayer Online Mode

GTA 6 is reportedly set to feature and online multiplayer mode. But we don’t just have to rely on speculations. This comes after the success of online multiplayer in GTA V and Rockstar Games Several putting out new listings on job openings website that mention “online” gameplay in their descriptions.

GTA 6 Map

Up until now, the GTA games have featured 2 full-scale games based in Los Santos, several different titles in Liberty City, and only one major title in Vice City. As such, fans claim that the GTA 6 story could play out in the iconic Vice City. Leaks and reports further revealed the possible appearance of Gator Keys and a massive map like never before.

GTA 6 supported platforms

GTA VI will likely have an initial release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S based on their past pattern. This could mean that GTA VI will be exclusive to PS5 and not be available for PS4 users. Moreover, fans can expect Rockstar to port the game to PC users like GTA 5. However, this could happen only in late 2025 or early 2026. Rockstar did the same with GTA 5 where they initially released on consoles in 2013 and later on PC in 2015.
