History of Grand Slam of Darts Trophy, Format, & All Edition Details
The competition was held at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall each November from its inception in 2007 until 2017. Andy Hamilton, Terry Jenkins, and Scott Waites were Phil Taylor’s opponents in the first three finals, which took place in 2007 and 2009. Following an 8-0 deficit, Scott Waites defeated James Wade in the championship game 16-12 in 2010. 2011 saw Taylor overcome Gary Anderson 16-4 to reclaim the title. 2018 saw the debut of Gerwyn Price as the champion. The Grand Slam was relocated to WV Active – Aldersley, formerly known as Aldersley Leisure Village, in 2018 due to repairs being made to the Civic Hall. At Aldersley, Gerwyn Price has 100% title-win record with three titles in 2018, 2019, and 2021.
During this tournament’s history, Phil Taylor dominated in early editions including three consecutive title victories from 2007 to 2009. His domination continued till 2015 edition, which saw Michael van Gerwen clinch his first title. Later, MVG managed to become champion of 2016 and 2017 edition before Gerwyn Price’s era began with title win in 2018. From last four editions of this tournament, Price has won three of them including his last season win. Peter Wright is another notable player in this tournament history with three final appearances despite winning none.
