Simmons experienced it in the opening frame of the Nets’ 129-125 overtime loss to the Mavericks on Thursday at the Barclays Center. In the first quarter, with the Nets down 22-19, Simmons and Kevin Durant appeared to be having a pretty good give-and-go. After passing the ball to Durant, Simmons made a break for the hoop and had a fairly wide-open layup opportunity, but he was unable to even hit the rim with his shot.

Cameras captured Kyrie Irving yelling at Ben Simmons to shoot during the Nets’ 110-99 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night, but after watching Simmons’ airball layup, Brooklyn supporters might be okay with him passing up some attempts. The Nets have cautioned that it would take some time for Simmons to regain his form after he missed time with a back injury and mental health issues starting in June 2021.
