Gerard Pique, the veteran defender of FC Barcelona, is prepared to accept a pay cut that could prevent him from collecting a salary for the entire 2022–23 season. This rumour is based on many claims that Pique informed Barcelona that he would be willing to dramatically lower his salary in exchange for aiding the team in signing their new summer players.

According to reports, his salary cut may eventually reach the point at which he would essentially play for free for the upcoming season. However, Pique will begin collecting his salary in the 2023–24 campaign, which will be the penultimate year of his deal.
