As a result of India’s ongoing development, the demand for energy is also rising day by day in several areas of the country. But it also implies that the price of power is rising as well and that this is not a fabrication but rather a fact.

Residents of cities like Delhi still struggle to cover their electrical costs. To add more burden, the price of electricity in Delhi has increased due to an increase in the power purchase adjustment cost (PPAC), which discoms impose on consumers.

This causes so much uneasiness among the residents as it might make their budget messed up and cause economic crunches. That’s why many people are talking about it and are trying to find out more about it. So, here’s what we know about it:

How Much PPAC Was Increased?

Power purchase costs (PPAC), which discoms impose on consumers, have increased in Delhi by 4% as of mid-June, according to government sources on Sunday.

Price hikes between 2 and 6% have been reported in a number of Delhi neighbourhoods, including 4% in the BSES Rajdhani region and 6% in the BSES Yamuna area. In locations served by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd., power rates have increased by 2%.

The PPAC is a fee that the discoms must pay to cover changes in market-driven gasoline prices. According to authorities, it is added as a surcharge to the fixed charge and total energy cost portions of an electrical bill.

Why It Has Been Increased?

According to a representative of the electricity department, the rise was implemented by the power distribution firms (discoms) with Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) clearance due to an increase in the cost of fuels such as coal and gas.

The commission examined the requests made by the discoms and discovered that while thermal power plants were required to expand their capacity to meet summertime electricity demand, power generation was hampered by a lack of local coal.

Discoms purchased 240 million units in the power exchange in April to satisfy the 100% demand, which grew to 450 million units in May, despite the fact that the demand for electricity reached 7000 MW for the first time in May.

When This Will Be Applicable?

For bills produced from June 10 onwards, these rates will be used and these rates are going to last till August 31st.
