Fresh Reports State Ricky Ponting Turned Down The Role Of India’s Head Coach Before Rahul Dravid Appointment 

Ahead of Rahul Dravid taking over from Ravi Shastri as the head coach of Team India, reports have emanated of Ricky Ponting refusing the BCCI’s offer 

The saga over who will take over from Ravi Shastri as the head coach of Team India looks to have finally come to an end. Although BCCI are yet to come out with an official statement, a raft of reports have confirmed that Rahul Dravid is set to become the new man at the helm.

Ever since Shastri had announced that he would be stepping down after the end of the T20 World Cup 2021, the BCCI had upped the ante in its search for the new coach. And while Rahul Dravid was always the preferred name, Dravid had apprehensions about talking over the job.

BCCI Had Offered Ricky Ponting Head Coach Role Prior To Rahul Dravid 

His contemplating over BCCI’s offer lead the BCCI to turn to manifold other people capable of taking over the job. And Ricky Ponting is said to be one name the board is said to have considered as per fresh reports.

According to the reports, the BCCI went as far ahead as to offer the Australian the job with him deciding to spurn the offer. While the reason behind Ponting’s refusal to take over the role is unknown, its a move which wouldn’t have endeared to ardent Indian supporters.

Ponting who is currently involved with the Delhi Capitals setup in the Indian Premier League as the side’s coach has often been berated for his perplexing decision making. He’s had a blatant prejudice towards Australian players with him making his innate hate for New Zealand cricketers made blatantly felt over the years.
