Formula One 2022 Line Up: List Of All The New Drivers Promoted From F2 To F1
1: Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc made the jump from Formula 2 in 2017 after winning the Championship with Prema Racing and earning promotion in F1. He was appointed as the second driver of Alfa Romeo before moving to Ferrari the following year.
2. George Russell
British Formula 1 driver George Russell won the Formula 2 Championship in 2018 with ART and earned a seat with Williams the following year. He has showcased excellent character and has been chosen to partner Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes for the next season.
3. Lando Norris
Lando Norris finished second behind George Russell in the 2018 Formula 2 Championship but his wonderful performances in a Carlin earned him a seat at McLaren who were looking for a young Champion. Norris has displayed a terrifying pace and has emerged as a surprise contender for this year.
4. Alex Albon
Alex Albon was the second runner-up in the 2018 Formula 2 Championship and was awarded a chance to get behind the wheels of RedBull but failed to impress the team because of his lack of pace and was subsequently replaced by Sergio Perez. However, he has earned a seat for the next season with Williams replacing George Russell.
5. Mick Schumacher
Mick Schumacher won the 2020 Formula 2 Championship and is the son of 7-time Formula 1 Champion Michael Schumacher. He secured promotion into Formula 1 with Haas F1 Racing Team and is still tied with the American Franchise.
6. Nicholas Latifi
Canadian Formula 1 driver Nicholas Latifi finished second in the 2019 Formula 2 Championship and earned promotion into Formula 1 with Williams Racing partnering with George Russell. Meanwhile, he also brings strong business with him and has a lot of backing from Canada.
7. Yuki Tsunoda
Japanese Formula 1 driver finished third in the 2020 Formula 2 Championship and earned a promotion with Alpha Tauri being a part of the RedBull Junior Academy. however, he has not been able to replicate his performances from F2.
8. Nikita Mazepin
Nikita Mazepin who drivers under the Russian flag in Formula 1 finished fifth in the 2020 Formula 2 Championship and earned promotion into Formula 1 with Haas. The American-based manufacturer opted for 2 rookies this season and is last in the constructor’s championship.
9. Guanyu Zhou
Guanyu Zhou has become the first full-time Chinese driver in Formula 1 after a series of excellent performances in Formula 2. He is currently second in the F2 Championship behind Oscar Piastri with just 2 races left for this season.
10. Oscar Piastri
Oscar Piastri currently leads the Formula 2 Championship and looks set to bag the title this year. Meanwhile, he has also earned a promotion in Formula 1 as a reserve driver for Alpine.
