The ninth round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship began on Sunday with the Canadian Grand Prix, which took place on the extremely wet Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

With a 24-race season, the built-in breaks throughout the season are critical for personnel who work in F1 to recover and the summer break lasts from Monday July 29 after the Belgian Grand Prix until Friday 23 August, when practice for the Dutch Grand Prix begins. During this time all teams have to enact a “summer shutdown” of 14 consecutive days when they cannot work on design or production of the car.

With such a long calendar there is also a slot of three weekends without a race between the Singapore Grand Prix on September 22 until the United States Grand Prix, which begins on October 18 and that unofficial “autumn break” is the same length as the summer break.

There will be a total of twenty-four races which has been schedule for this season with the season finale to take place in Abu Dhabi takes place on December 8. Similar to 2023, there will be six sprint races in 2024.

However, China and Miami have been added to the list of sites, replacing Belgium and Azerbaijan from the previous year. There are still Brazil, Qatar, Austria, and the Americas’ Circuit. 

Brazil, Qatar, Austria, and the Americas’ Circuit are still there. However, there are few changes for this season. 

Instead of taking place on Saturday, sprint qualifying is held on Friday in 2024. The sprint race itself will be raced on Saturday. Prior to the Grand Prix qualifying round, which is still scheduled for Sunday.

The summer break will run start from July 29 and will run until Belgian Grand Prix until Friday 23 August, ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix. 

In addition, from the Singapore Grand Prix on September 22 to the United States Grand Prix, which starts on October 18, there is a three-week period during which there are no races.

Formula 1 2024 driver’s standings and points table 

Max Verstappen continued his flawless season-opening performance from the year before by winning in Bahrain to start the 2024 Formula 1 season. 

With the exception of a brief stretch where Lando Norris led the way behind a safety car, Verstappen dominated the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which was contested in Jeddah. 

Following Verstappen’s pole position and after an early struggle with Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, Sergio Perez took second place.
