Globo Esporte, a Brazilian news site, said that the accident happened right after Colares ended training. Monday afternoon, MMA fighter Kleydson Rodrigues, who was on Colares’ team, told Sherdog writer Christian Stein that Colares had died.

Even though Colares’s career has been short, he became well-known all over the country in January when he used his jiu-jitsu skills to stop a robbery in Brazil. He was able to get the suspect to stay in one place before the police came to take him into custody.
