Who Is Sanna Marin?

Sanna Marin is the Prime Minister of Finland. She has recently been in the news because of her videos from a private party as they created huge controversy around her.

Sanna Mirella Marin is her whole name. She was born in Helsinki on November 16, 1985. She then resided in Espoo and Pirkkala as well before relocating to Tampere.

Lauri Marin is the name of her father, who battled alcoholism. Marin’s mother and her mother’s female lover raised her after her biological parents divorced.

At the age of 19, She graduated from Pirkkala High School in 2004. Later, she earned an administrative science master’s degree from the University of Tampere. While pursuing her studies, she held a cashier and bakery job.

Before marrying Markus Räikkönen, her daughter Emma was born. The couple was hitched in the prime minister’s official house, Kesäranta, in August 2020. She is a Christian by religion.

Her Career

From 2010 to 2012, Sanna Marin served as the organization’s first vice president after joining Social Democratic Youth in 2006.

She attempted to be elected to Tampere’s City Council in 2008 but was unsuccessful; however, she tried again in 2012 and was victorious. Within months, she was elected chairperson of the city council, a position she held from 2013 until 2017.

She was re-elected to the City Council in 2017. She originally rose to fame after YouTube users posted videos of her presiding over tense sessions.

In 2014, Marin was chosen as the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) second vice chairman. She was chosen to represent the Pirkanmaa electoral district in the Finnish Parliament in 2015.

She was elected again four years later. She was appointed Minister of Transport and Communications on June 6, 2019. Marin was elected SDP chair on August 23, 2020, taking Antti Rinne’s place.

The Social Democratic Party nominated Marin in December 2019 to succeed Antti Rinne as prime minister of Finland, and she was elected to that position, becoming the country’s youngest prime minister. Since then, she has been holding the position.
