Former national and world pairs figure skating champion Bridget Namiotka, 32, passed away on July 25. Her parents spoke with USA TODAY and verified the news.

However, apart from her illustrious career, the medal-winning skater was also notorious for accusing John Coughlin, a two-time US National Pairs Champion, of sexual misconduct in May 2019. Later on, John was suspended which promoted him to take his life under mysterious circumstances.

Who Was John Coughlin?

John Coughlin was a well-known American skater. He has been in the news because Bridget Namiotka who accused him of sexual misconduct, has recently died.

His full name was John Patrick Coughlin. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on December 1, 1985. He was the 3rd-generation police officer’s son and his father’s name was Mike Coughlin. His mother’s name was Stacy Coughlin who passed away in February 2010 after suffering from a long-term ailment. He also has one sister whose name is Angela Laune.

He stood 1.90 meters tall, or 6 feet 3 inches. He passed away in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, on January 18, 2019. He was just 33 years old when he passed away.

His Career

Coughlin started skating when he was six years old. He faced up against Krista Smith, Kelsey Parker, and Lucy Galleher early in his career.

In late 2004, he joined forces with Bridget Namiotka. They won silver in the junior national competition that year. On July 3, 2007, they declared the end of their partnership.

He shared the silver medal at the 2012 Four Continents and the U.S. national title that year with Caydee Denney. He won the 2011 U.S. title with his former partner Caitlin Yankowskas.

Death Cause Of John Coughlin

On January 18, 2019, Coughlin was discovered dead from a suicide by hanging, one day after being expelled from figure skating due to unnamed charges.

Following accusations that Coughlin rejected, the United States Center for SafeSport placed his name with the notation “Interim Measure – Restriction” on December 17, 2018. He later gave notice of his resignation as John Wilson Blades’ U.S. brand manager.

If reports are to be believed then his former fellow skater Bridget Namiotka accused him of sexual misconduct, which promoted him to take his own life.
