The dawn of Women’s football in India is all set to embark as FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup will be held in India from October 11 to October 30, 2022 as per the latest information provided by FIFA.

This edition of the FIFA World Cup was originally to be held in India in 2020 from February 17 to March 7 before the second wave of Covid-19 sprung all around the country.

As many might be aware, this is the second FIFA event to be held within the borders of India. The first was the FIFA Under-17 Men’s World Cup which was held in 2017. Interestingly that event broke the record for the highest attendance ever recorded in a youth international World Cup.

Other Events Confirmed and Approved by FIFA

The football council also made their dates clear for the FIFA Under-20Women’s World Cup to be held in Costa Rica from August 10 to August 28, 2022. While a 14-day playoff for the FIFA Arab Cup 2021 will take place from June 19 to 25 in the coming month.

Moreover, FIFA approved the establishment of respective FIFA subsidiaries to manage the organization of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 in Australia and New Zealand. And also the FIFA World Cup 2026 in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

How Many Countries Have Hosed the FIFA Women’s World Cup?

Women’s World Cup has been hosted by six countries. China and United States have hosted twice. On the other hand, Canada, France, Germany, and Sweden have hosted it once.

Qualification – As per the current format of the tournament, national teams contest for 23 slots for three-year qualification phase while the team of host nation is automatically entered as 24th slot. The tournament proper is contested at venues in about one month.

Having said that, let’s hope the current Covid-19 situation gets better day by day in the country so that the India could host the second international FIFA event within its territories and the first women’s tournament since the inception of the sport in 1895.
