2023 FIDE World Chess Championship Round 7 result, match events, Round 8 schedule, date, time, venue, & format
During Game 7 of the FIDE World Chess Championship, Ding Liren self-destructed due to a time crunch, freezing in a position where he appeared to have put in all the effort and was the one pushing for a victory. Ding Liren needs to recover from a heartbreaking setback in the second half of the tournament as Ian Nepomniachtchi now leads 4-3. To counter GM Ian Nepomniachtchi’s brilliant move, Ding chose the French Defense, but he made a mistake under extreme time pressure and lost the game at the key moment.
Although the outcome was disastrous for Ding’s campaign, he has shown that he can bounce back from such challenges. Ding demonstrated his desire to win throughout the entire game, but he ultimately lost it when the time limit came into play. Meanwhile, Nepomniachtchi will head into the rest day brimming with confidence and comfortable 4-3 lead.
