FIDE Chess Rankings And Ratings List 2022, Elo Rating System, Top Players And Top Chess Federations
FIDE Rating and Elo Rating System
International chess competition is governed by the International Chess Federation (FIDE). FIDE provides the “Top 100 Players,” “Top 100 Women,” “Top 100 Juniors,”, “Top 100 Girls”, and rankings of countries based on the average rating of their top 10 male and female players each month. Elo rating system is implemented for determining the FIDE Rating. The Elo rating of a player is represented by a number that can fluctuate depending on the results of rated games played.
The winning player deducts points from the losing player at the end of each game. The overall number of points won or lost after a game is determined by the difference between the winner’s and loser’s ratings. If the higher-rated player wins, the lower-rated player will lose only a few rating points. Many rating points will be transferred if the lower-rated player pulls off an upset triumph. In the event of a tie, the lower-rated player will earn a few points from the higher-rated player. This grading system is self-correcting in this way.
