FIA has replaced its medical car team for the Turkish Grand Prix 2021 after positive COVID-19 tests were returned
Although the world is slowly getting back up on its feet, the threat of COVID-19 is far from diminished. As lockdowns are opened up across the global stage, a raft of countries have once again fallen prey to the disease with a fresh wave battering these areas.
With people flouting Coronavirus norms and a slow vaccination rate further slowing down the recovery from the pandemic, positive cases have erupted across the world. The land of motorsports hasn’t been able to stave the disease either with FIA’s medical car team being under the weather ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix.
FIA Medical Car Team Ruled Out Of Turkish Grand Prix 2021 Due To COVID
Driver Alan van der Merwe and FIA F1 medical rescue coordinator and deputy medical delegate Dr Ian Roberts have both been ruled out of the impending Turkish GP after testing positive for Covid-19, the FIA has confirmed. Both are currently in self isolation as they continue their recovery with the duo having tested positive for the disease prior to travelling to Istanbul.
Both are currently envisaged to get a clean bill of health ahead of the United States Grand Prix which will be held later in October. FIA has meanwhile named a replacement medical car team for the Turkish GP with Formula E safety car driver Bruno Correia and Dr. Bruno Franceschini comprising the new team.
The Turkish GP will see Lewis Hamilton look to extend his reign at the top after triumphing in the bygone Russian Grand Prix. The race saw him take pole after McLaren’s Lando Norris endured late heartbreak with him unable to control his car amidst inclement weather.
