Team Principal Mattia Binotto left Scuderia Ferrari this week, putting an end to rumours that had been going around for a long time, know who can be the new team principal candidates list
Binotto had worked for Scuderia for almost 30 years.
In a statement posted on Ferrari’s website, the team thanked Binotto for his work over the past 28 years and for “leading the team back to a competitive position” over the past year.

Back in 2019, Mattia Binotto’s first season with Scuderia, the team came in second place in the Constructors’ Championship. But that finish was ruined by the news that the Scuderia. And the FIA had reached an agreement about Ferrari’s power unit that wasn’t made public. Then, in 2020, Ferrari had their worst season in recent memory. They finished sixth in the Constructors’ standings.
The Scuderia came back over the past two seasons, which is to their credit and to Binotto’s. 2020 was definitely a low point for the Scuderia, but the beginning of this season was more of a high point. Ferrari had a great start to the season. After the first four races, Ferrari was in first place in the Constructors’ standings with 124 points. Red Bull was in second place with 113 points, and Mercedes was a long way behind with only 77 points.
But a series of technical problems and strategic mistakes made it easy for Red Bull to take the lead. Worse, these mistakes gave Mercedes a chance to get back into the race for second. And going into the last Grand Prix of the season, the Silver Arrows were in a position to pass the Scuderia.
Then rumours about Binotto’s future with the team went into high gear. Charles Leclerc’s second-place finish, which gave him second place in the Drivers’ Championship, and Sainz’s fourth-place finish helped Ferrari stay ahead. Even though those results were enough to keep Mercedes from taking over, they weren’t enough to stop people from talking about Binotto’s future.

As talk about Binotto’s future with the Scuderia grew, the name of Frédéric Vasseur, who is currently the Team Principal for Alfa Romeo, came up a lot. Vasseur’s connection to the Scuderia is pretty clear, as it goes right through Leclerc’s race car’s cockpit.
During Leclerc’s first F1 season, Vasseur and Leclerc worked together. At the time, Alfa Romeo’s brand name was Sauber, and Vasseur was in charge of the team. Since then, Vasseur has kept talking about how great Leclerc is.
Peter Seidl, Team Principal, McLaren
Andreas Seidl, who is the Team Principal for McLaren right now. Is another name that has been linked to the Scuderia in the past few weeks. Seidl moved into this job at the beginning of 2019, after being Team Principal for Porsche LMP1.
Reports say that Ferrari talked to Seidl about joining the Scuderia months ago, but Seidl “politely declined.” The same news story said that Seidl and Christian Horner, who runs Red Bull, were “dream” candidates for the Scuderia.
Ross Brawn, Formula One’s Head of Business
In recent days, a new but well-known name has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Binotto. Ross Brawn’s, whose long career in Formula One helped multiple teams win eight Constructors’ Championships and eight Drivers’ Championships.
Brawn started racing in Formula One in the 1980s, but his career really took off when he joined Benetton, which is now Renault, in 1991. During his time as Benetton’s Technical Director, Michael Schumacher won two Drivers’ Championships in 1994 and 1995, and the team won a Constructors’ Championship in 1995.
