Prediction

Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada and Holger Rune of Denmark, both needs will square off at the final of the Swiss Indoors 2022.

In the semifinal match in Basel on Saturday, the rising star Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz 6-3, 6-2, improving his perfect record against the Spaniard to 3-0. The World Number Nine, who significantly outperformed the 19-year-old, terminated his chances of reaching the final of the ninth season by saving the only break point he encountered during the match and profiting from three of eight break attempts.

With the victory, Auger-Aliassime has advanced to a third straight final and will attempt to achieve a hat-trick of championships on Sunday. Over the past two weeks, the Canadian won back-to-back championships in Antwerp and Florence. He currently has a 12-match victory streak and appears unbeatable. Auger-Aliassime, who has triumphed in three of the last 12 finals, also won his first-ever ATP championship earlier this year in Rotterdam. He will play in his fifth season-ending final in Basel and has only lost once, to Marseille.

Like his opponent on Sunday, Holger Rune has been in outstanding shape this month. On Saturday, the 19-year-old Dane defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets to advance to his third straight final. Rune, who has gone nine matches without losing a set this week, increased his current run. After falling short to Huesler in the Sofia Open final earlier this month, he won his second career championship last week in Stockholm by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas. He brought that form to Basel, where he advanced to the final without suffering a setback throughout the entire week.

Rune defeated Arthur Rinderknech in the quarterfinal, Bautista Agut in the semifinal on Saturday, and Alex de Minaur and Ugo Humbert along the way to the championship match. The Dane defeated Bautista Agut 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (8-6) with the help of 11 aces served and 46 winners.

Rune’s fourth final of his breakout season and fourth overall. He received championship titles in Stockholm and Munich. Sunday, can he add a third?

This is a perfect conclusion between two players who are in superb form. The highly favoured Auger-Aliassime is expected to continue his streak and win a hat-trick of titles in October, so expect this to go the distance.
