Tuchel was rewarded by owner Roman Abramovich with a new contract after lifting the Champions League trophy with Chelsea earlier last month
The last six months have been nothing short of a dream for Chelsea’s boisterous supporters. From sitting in ninth spot and regressing as a side in January to winning the Champions League, the club has completely overhauled its form in the frugal matter of six months.
The flash point of Chelsea’s consummate success came in January when owner Roman Abramovich decided he had seen enough of Frank Lampard. Wielding the axe on Lampard, Roman brought in German Thomas Tuchel on an 18 month deal.
Chelsea Win The Champions Trophy
And while Chelsea went from strength to strength under the 47 year old, the club waned in form at the wrong moment. The club’s wayward form in May saw it not only lose the FA Cup to Leicester City but just about scrounge its way to fourth position in the Premier League.
However, the club silenced all its naysayers as it defeated Manchester City 1-0 in Portugal only a few days later. The triumph was one given birth to by Tuchel’s astute tactics and the fortitude of the Chelsea players on the night.
Meeting Roman Abramovich for the first time ensuing the win, Tuchel talked about how he was looking forward to a contract extension at the club. And the German has been rightfully serenaded with the club handing him a new deal, one which sees him stay at the club till 2024.
Tuchel Signs New Three Year Contract
Chelsea confirmed the news on Friday with Tuchel talking about how there couldn’t have been a better time to sign the new contract. The German was quick to assert that the Champions League was only the start and there was far more to come from this Chelsea side under his tutelage.
“I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal,” said Tuchel.
“I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family.
“There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation.”
Tuchel will not turn his attention to the transfer market with Roman slated to reward him with a handsome amount to invest in.
