Sizikova lost her service game last year, an action which was heavily bet on and has since being alluded to as match fixing to see her being picked up from the French Open 2021
The ongoing edition of the French Open has been anything but simple and straightforward. After Naomi Osaka decided to pack her bags up and head for the exit door ensuing a $15,000 fine, the marquee grand slam has now been rocked by a fresh controversy.
Yana Sizikova Arrested From French Open 2021 Over Match Fixing
Russian player, Yana Sizikova was picked up by the police and arrested on charges of match fixing. The incident in question had occurred last year at Rolland Garros ensuing which French prosecutors had gone onto launch a full fledged action into the mishap.
And as per latest evidence at the disposal of the investigating authorities, Sizikova is said to be guilty of colluding with fixers. Sizikova is said to have deliberately lost her service game in a women’s doubles match at Roland Garros last year between Romanian pair Andreea Mitu and Patricia Mari vs Yana Sizikova and Madison Brengle.
Yana Fixed Losing Her Service At Rolland Garros
A colossal amount was bet on Sizikova losing her service with Sizikova obliging the betters as she went onto commit two double-faults. Not only that, in a bemusing bit of play, the Russian had failed to reach the ball in the fifth game of the second set, a misremember which played a crucial role in seeing the game swing in Mitu and Mari’s favour.
Anyone missing the Sizikova fix from last year?

An investigation was launched after bookmakers identified irregular betting activity around the doubles match. It was claimed that hundreds of thousands of euros were bet on Sizikova losing her service game.
Bookmakers had gone onto raise flags over the 26 year old’s blatant misconduct on the court with authorities leaving no stone unturned ever since to unearth the matter at hand. Shamil Tarpischev, president of the Russian Tennis Federation went onto reaffirm that Yana had indeed been arrested to the RIA news agency.
‘We have not received any documents, so it’s difficult to make an assessment of what has happened,’ Tarpischev said.
Sizikova was arrested shortly after her first-round doubles match where she and her partner Ekaterina Alexandrova were defeated 6-1 6-1 by Ajla Tomljanovic and Storm Sanders.
