F1 Penalty Points 2021 List By Driver And Team And Ban Explained

The Super Licence penalty points system is used in Formula 1 when the drivers begin to misbehave on the track and display indiscipline. FIA introduced this penalty system as a punishment for the drivers causing a collision on the track and disrupting the flow of the race.

Drivers have to maintain the decorum of the race on the circuit and if they do something which the FIA considers dangerous they will receive penalty points as a punishment. These things include causing a collision with another driver, ignoring yellow or red flags, entering the closed pit lane, or driving too fast behind the safety car all these things are penalized by the  FIA.

These penalty points expire after 12 months have elapsed but the repercussions of these penalties are a race ban should 12 points be accrued during this period. Know the list of the penalty points for F1 2021.

Mercedes

1. Lewis Hamilton – 4 Points

Lewis Hamilton received 2 penalty points and a 10-second time penalty in the pits after causing a collision with Max Verstappen in the first lap of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone to see it become the latest part of the F1 2021 penalty points list.

British GP – Two Points
Expires: 18th July 2022
Reason: Throwing Verstappen off the track at Silverstone

Italian GP – Two Points
Expires: 6th September 2021
Reason: He went into the pit lane when it was closed and was awarded a 10-second stop/go penalty.

2. Valterri Bottas – 2 Points

His wild spin in the pit lane in FP2 of the Styrian Grand Prix was considered reckless and dangerous by the FIA and was handed over 2 penalty points.

Styrian GP – Two Points
Expires: 25th June 2022
Reason: Reckless driving in the pit lane with a chance of a possible accident.

RedBull

1. Max Verstappen – 0 Points

Young Dutchman has 0 penalty points on his license and is one of the most disciplined drivers on the track.

2. Sergio Perez – 8 Points

Checo is the most aggressive driver on the track with no discipline and a ton of determination to win the race at any cost.

Spanish GP – One Point
Expires: 16th August 2021
Reason: He ignored the blue flag and was not letting faster cars to pass.

Tuscan GP – One Point
Expires: 11th September 2021
Reason: Involved in a serious collision with Raikkonen in FP2.

Emilia Romagna GP – Two Points

Reason: Not following the protocol in the safety car period.

2. Carlos Sainz – 1 Point

Spaniard is one of the coolest and calmest drivers on the track with only one point on his license.
