Chennai Super Kings faced Royal Challengers Bangalore in an epic battle of the titans on Monday (April 17) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
While the match was exciting, star Indian batter Virat Kohli had a night to forget, as he failed with the bat, resulting in a deduction in his match fees as a result of a fine.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) fined Virat Kohli 10% of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct.

As per reports, Kohli admitted to committing a Level 1 offence in violation of Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. The match referee’s decision is final and binding for Level 1 violations.
“RCB batter Virat Kohli has been fined 10% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru,” the IPL said in a statement. “Mr. Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” according to the statement.
Mohammed Siraj took a deep catch to dismiss Chennai Super Kings batter Shivam Dube, who was decimating the RCB bowlers all over the park while scoring 52 runs off 27 balls. Virat Kohli exclaimed loudly after catching a delivery from Wayne Parnell, as he was overjoyed to have taken an important scalp at a crucial point in the game. It is widely assumed that the ex-RCB captain was fined because of this celebration. However, there is no mention of the reason for his fine in the IPL statement.

In a previous incident, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana was fined 25% of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct after a heated argument with Mumbai Indians’Hrithik Shokeen during a match at the Wankhede Stadium on April 16. Shokeen was also fined 10% of his match fees for the same incident.
The release did not go Into detail about the incident that led to Kohli’s violation of the Code of Conduct, but it was most likely due to his aggressive celebration after CSK all-rounder Shivam Dube was dismissed.
RCB left-arm pacer Wayne Parnell bowled a full delivery on Shivam Dube’s pads in the 17th over of CSK’s innings. The lanky CSK all-rounder, who had been hitting the ball like a dream up until that point, was taken out inches from the long-on boundary by Mohammed Siraj.
