With her dominant performance over tournament favourite Jessica Pegula, Victoria Azarenka advanced to the Australian Open semifinals as her PSG jersey goes viral
The American was beaten by the 33-year-old, who has previously won the Grand Slam twice, 6-4, 6-1. On Thursday, she’ll play Elena Rybakina, the Wimbledon champion (January 26th).
After each of her triumphs at the Australian Open, Azarenka has worn a PSG shirt, like she did after her win at the Adelaide International earlier this month. Specifically, Leo Azarenka. It’s not because of Leo Messi that Belarusian star Victoria Azarenka will compete in the 2023 Australian Open wearing a Paris Saint-Germain jersey.
Explained why is Victoria Azarenka wearing a PSG jersey at the Australian Open 2023
The 33-year-old wore the shirt of the Ligue 1 powerhouses after her Tuesday victory against Jessica Pegula in the women’s singles quarterfinal. Later, in an interview, she explained that her seven-year-old son, who was named after the 2022 World Cup winning captain, was the inspiration for her actions.

She told the WTA’s website, “He saw me wearing the shirt; he will wear the shirt so we’re matching. “I have been supporting them [PSG] since 2012, since [David] Beckham was signed to the club. I have been a fan for a long time and been to many, many games.”
Azarenka went on to say that although she was a Tennis player, her kid had a stronger interest in football.

He has shown an interest in joining Paris Saint-roster. She went on to explain that this was actually his dream. “I’m a soccer mom now, and I love supporting. I’m obnoxious, like absolutely the most obnoxious.”

Presently ranked at number 24 in the world, Azarenka has won 21 WTA Tour tournaments throughout her career. This includes back-to-back 2012 and 2013 titles at the Australian Open. In 2012, 2013, and 2020, the Belarusian also competed in the US Open final.
With a total of 51 weeks at the top, Azarenka finished 2012 as the world’s best player. Azarenka is turning back the clock in Melbourne this month after having trouble replicating this form in prior years. Visiting Qatar to cheer on Lionel Messi and Argentina at the World Cup last month was just the latest example of her longstanding love and admiration for the Paris Saint-Germain great.
