According to makeuseof, OW2 will take a post-paid phone number from a mobile device with a monthly subscription agreement. Prepaid refers to pay-as-you-go when you buy services like data before utilising them.
Blizzard claims that they do not take prepaid credit cards or VOIP, which is a telephone service offered over the internet.
SMS Protect is a component of the new “Defense Matrix” utilised in Overwatch 2 to fight disruptive in-game behaviour and “smurf accounts.”
According to Blizzard’s official “Defense Matrix” summary, it will aid in establishing account ownership if a profile is ever compromised and make it more challenging for players who have been banned or suspended to rejoin the game.
