Explained Why Are Eggs Eaten On Easter, Meaning, Significance, History, Images
While churches are decorated to commemorate Jesus Christ’s resurrection, people are getting ready to exchange presents and eat cakes. With large scale chants commencing on Good Friday and ending on Easter Sunday, the festive mood is rung in for a week. The date for this year’s celebration is April 17th.
Easter Sunday represents the triumph of good over evil, rebirth, and the triumph of truth for Christians, whilst Pagan rituals highlight the change of season. So, let’s find out everything about easter eggs:
What Are Easter Eggs On Easter?
Easter eggs, also known as Paschal eggs, are decorated eggs for the Christian feast of Easter, which commemorates Jesus’ resurrection. As a result, these eggs are prevalent during the Easter season.
The oldest custom is to utilise colourful and painted chicken eggs, which is still practised in Central and Eastern Europe.
Significance Of Easter Eggs On Easter
Even though eggs are a traditional sign of fertility and rebirth in general, these eggs represent the empty tomb of Jesus, from which he was risen, in Christianity.
In certain regions, chocolate eggs wrapped in coloured foil, hand-carved wooden eggs, or plastic eggs filled with delicacies such as chocolate have become a modern tradition.

Its History
According to various accounts, this ritual may be traced back to early Mesopotamian Christians, and it extended from there through all the Orthodox Churches into Eastern Europe and Siberia, and then into Europe through the Catholic and Protestant Churches.
Mediaeval academics often assume that this tradition stems from the restriction of eggs during Lent, after which they are blessed for the occasion of Easter.
Why Do People Eat Easter Eggs On Easter?
Originally, they were given and received as presents to celebrate the beginning of spring, a ritual that evolved into Easter through time. Because Christians are not permitted to consume eggs or other fats throughout Lent, eating one on Sunday was considered a rare pleasure.
The practice developed superstitious over time. If you stored eggs delivered by chickens and other animals on Good Friday for 100 years, they were claimed to change into diamonds – but this might have been a joke perpetrated by a prankster looking to cause a stir both literally and metaphorically.
And it was thought that if your egg had a double yolk, you would shortly become wealthy. Some even believed that cooking them on Good Friday and then eating them on Easter Sunday provided fertility and other health advantages. This mildly repulsive notion, however, has never been scientifically validated.
