According to certain media sources, Murmu was wearing the same saree that her relatives had brought with them from her birthplace.

Her sister-in-law Sukri Tudu, who arrived in Delhi on Sunday to take part in the historic occasion, reportedly carried the handmade saree from Odisha, according to news agency PTI. Sukri stated to the news organization,

“I am carrying a Santali traditional saree for`Didi’ (elder sister) and pray she will wear it during the oath-taking. I am not sure what she will actually wear on the occasion. The Rashtrapati Bhawan will decide the dress of the new president.”

The Santhal women wear these sarees on special occasions. They feature some striped embroidery on one end and have identical designs on both ends. It is reportedly vertically symmetrical.
