In Tokyo Olympics, Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal and created history after securing first place in Men’s Javelin Throw. Neeraj will add another prestigious honour to his impressive list of achievements on the auspicious occasion of Republic Day on 26th January
Explained What is Param Vishist Seva Medal
It is a military medal which is given recognise and honour distinguished service. Since its inception in 1960, All ranks of Indian Armed Forces and lawfully constituted armed forces are eligible for the award.
This award is considered equivalent to Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal and this year Indian president Ramnath Kovind will award a total of 19 Param Vishist Seva Medal on Republic Day.
How And Why Neeraj Chopra Got The PVSM Award On Republic Day 2022?
In 2016, Chopra got the opportunity to join the 4 Rajputana Rifles as a Naib Subedar. He was chosen for training at the ‘Mission Olympics Wing’ and the Army Sports Institute in Pune after joining the Army. The Indian Army’s Mission Olympics Wing is a special programme, found with the objective of identifying and training promising athletes for national and international tournaments.
Chopra received the Arjuna Award in 2018 and the Vishist Seva Medal in 2020 for his sporting achievements. But the biggest achievement which made the country proud was his gold winning 87.58m throw in Javelin Throw at Tokyo Olympics.
The Indian Army released the list of army force members set to receive awards for their gallant and distinguished service. Including Chopra, 18 other active and retired members of the Indian Army will also receive the Param Vishist Seva Medal.
Param Vishist Seva Medal Award Precedence and Winners List Republic Day 2022
PVSM medal ranks immediate below to Padma Bhushan in terms of precedence while it ranks immediate above Maha Vir Chakra. At the Republic Day ceremony, 6 Shaurya Chakras, 84 Sena Medals, 77 Vishist Seva Medals and 19 Param Vishist Seva Medals will be awarded. We take a look at some of the recipients of 2022 PVSM Medal.
The President will also honour the winners of 122 Vishisht Seva Medals, three Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry), 81 Sena Medals (Gallantry), two Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry), 40 Sena Medals (Devotion to Duty), eight Nao Sena Medals (Devotion to Duty), and 14 Vayu Sena Medals (Devotion to Duty) on the 73rd Republic Day.
