In contrast to the original Orbeez challenge, which involves playing with bouncing balls and is non-hazardous in nature, the authorities have labelled the current craze by the same name as hazardous after many reports of injuries.

Recently, this craze gained attention after a teenager was tragically shot off-duty corrections officer.

Since then, many people are talking about this challenge and that’s why it has become a trending topic on various social media platforms. Many people are also trying to find out more about the challenge and the case related to it which gained a lot of attention. So, here’s what we know about them:

What Is Orbeez Challenge?

For TikTok, the Orbeez challenge is nothing new. The Orbeez challenge sets, which come with special tools and storage, have inspired users to create movies.

Super-absorbent polymer beads known as Orbeez balls expand more than 100 times their original size when submerged in water. They are soft and springy, and Spin Master, the company that makes them, markets them as toys for kids. The task, though, seems to have acquired a perilous new meaning recently.

Posts on TikTok that feature people smiling on camera while firing Orbeez at random strangers are popular. In place of Orbeez, many individuals use bullets and other hefty balls.

They are capable of doing great harm, and the police have been aggressively monitoring incidents involving this problem.

What Happened Recently?

Dion Middleton, 45, shot and killed 18-year-old Raymond Chaluisant after he reportedly fired an air gun at him from his car on Thursday, July 21. The air weapon allegedly fired Orbeez soft gel balls, which are employed in this popular TikTok challenge.

According to New York Daily News sources, it is illegal to own an Orbeez gun, which looks like a pistol and fires gel water beads with the help of a spring-loaded air pump, in NYC.

Middleton is accused of killing someone, manslaughtering someone, and having a weapon in an unethical way. Middleton allegedly shot many times, and it’s not apparent what Raymond was aiming for.

The shooting allegedly occurred at Morris Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway, although Raymond was discovered half a mile away. At 1:35 a.m., at the Grand Concourse and E. Tremont Ave. in Mount Hope, the police discovered him unconscious inside a silver Acura. No TikTok videos of this trend have been discovered as of yet.

Despite being taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, Raymond was not able to be rescued and eventually he died.
