Giant slalom is one of the most popular winter sports. Giant Slalom has always been a part of the Winter Olympics ever since its inception in 1952 and the World Championships since 1950.

The method followed in this sporting event of giant slalom competitions is that they must have a vertical drop between 250–450m for men, and for women, it should be 250–400. There are in total of 56-70 gates that are used for men’s events and, for the women’s event 46–58 are used. The minimum length of skis that are used for the giant slalom event has to be mandatorily 185 cm for men and 180 cm for women. A maximum stand height that could be used is 55mm which is basically also enforced.

Giant slalom is very similar to that of slalom. Giant Slalom is a technical event in which the athletes are judged on the basis of technical aspects of turns rather than focusing on the speed aspect. In these competitions, each participant is allowed two runs down the course, and by judging those the athletes are awarded points. The contestant with the most cumulative points for the combined two runs is declared the winner of the event.
