Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff both missed the F1 2021 awards ceremony and could be punished for it if found to have breached Article 6.6 of the FIA Sporting Regulations
Although Mercedes eventually decided not to go ahead with their appeal with Toto Wolff revealing the side wouldn’t be approaching the International FIA Court of Appeal after the Abu Dhabi GP 2021, both he and Lewis Hemilton abstained from the FIA’s prize ceremony.

The awards ceremony which was held to commemorate the winners of the F1 2021 season saw both Wolff and Hamilton stay away despite Mercedes winning the constructors’ championship title. The Briton could now end up being punished by the FIA with the new president affirming that they were checking if he had breached Article 6.6 of the F1’s Sporting Regulations.

Sulayem said: “First of all, as a driver, I feel emotional but at the end of the day rules are rules.
“So we are going to look into the side where the technical rules are there to be employed.
“Was he in breach? I have to look into it. We have to be following our rules, but in the meanwhile it doesn’t stop us from making a champion feel good about the sport.
“It’s easy to be nice to people, it’s cheap to be nice, and also to motivate people, but if there is any breach there is no forgiveness in this.”
