Explained The New Proposed FIFA World Cup Two Year Plan Format And Football Season

As we all know, teams need to play qualifying matches before playing the World Cup. And for these qualifying matches, there is an international break. Wenger suggested that there should be only two international breaks. Furthermore, players will leave their club for international teams only in March and October. This will give the club more time to use their players and it will not disturb the flow of the club matches.

There are several teams that play qualifying matches. According to Wenger’s idea, the teams should only play around 6-7 matches to qualify for the World Cup. This means the games will be given more importance both by the fans and the teams. Moreover, this will be not a good idea for small teams like Andorra and San Mario. There are almost 55-56 teams in UEFA, which means that a total of 14 groups will be made of four each.

There are 10 south American teams who play the qualifying matches. Furthermore, after the addition of 48 teams in the World Cup, there will be 6 teams qualifying in the World Cup. And, considering this new format, all the teams will play only 2-3 matches to qualify for the World Cup.

Schedule Of The Football Season

There are many pundits and former managers who are in support of  Wenger’s idea. But, if it gets on, then the schedule is tight for the next 8 years. This means we can not expect this new format of the World Cup before 2030.

However, UEFA has no interest in the plan. UEFA’s president said that if this happens, there will be no European teams taking part in the World Cup. He said that the World Cup is prestigious because it is held every 4 years. Also, this will affect the schedule of other tournaments like the Olympics, Euro, and Women’s World Cup.
