According to The Race, the current generation of the Mercedes W13 is substantially faster in the simulator than the previous version was during the Barcelona test last month. Given the requirement for side impact structures and cooling inlets, the sidepods cannot be completely deleted.
Mercedes has made space for a densely wrapped sidepod that then swiftly narrows by placing the cooling inboard and maybe a bit higher in the vehicle. As a result, the engine cover has two rows of cooling gills, the lower one facing the front and the upper one towards the back.
A redesigned floor, as well as wing mirror clamps that form an isolated surface at the top of the front of the sidepod, are included in the new kit.
Mercedes’ New Begining
On the first day of the last test in Bahrain, only ten days before the first race, Hamilton’s Mercedes team debuted a drastically changed machine.
The focus is on Mercedes’ almost non-existent sidepods, which are meant to increase airflow, improve downforce, and effectively increase the car’s speed. Mercedes’ ground-breaking design follows the sport’s most major technical revamp in a generation.
Horner Questioned If His Opponents Had Broken The Rules
As a regulations dispute threatens to engulf the 2019 Formula One season, Red Bull team head Christian Horner has labelled Lewis Hamilton’s new Mercedes “illegal.
“From our perspective of view, Mercedes went a step too far,” Horner remarked in an interview with German journal Auto Motor und Sport.
That isn’t in keeping with the spirit of the rules. These wings are prohibited in our country.” Rival teams may protest the Mercedes during the opening round on March 20 in the Gulf Kingdom.
The car might potentially be banned if eight of the ten teams on the grid – the so-called “supermajority” – decide it violates the spirit of the new rules.
Mercedes Response To Horner
Toto Wolff, Mercedes team’s principal, expressed confidence in the team’s car’s legality. “We wanted to make sure we weren’t operating alone, so we kept in touch with the FIA, and I think it’ll be OK.
“It’s obvious that bringing a new idea to the table sparks the type of discussion we’re having now. This was to be expected.”
