Krafton’s popular battle royale game, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), was blocked all of a sudden following a government order, know the reason behind it being banned again in 2022
The Google Play store as well as the Apple App Store both removed the PUBG alternative game on Thursday.
The game, which was just recently launched a few months ago, was blocked, much to the shock of everyone. However, another one of Krafton’s games, PUBG New State, is still available in the country.

As of now, it remains unclear why the government has issued the order regarding the matter.
Google Issues a Statement; Apple’s Response Awaited
Following the controversial event, Google said that it has been done following a “government order”. A spokesperson for Google stated that
On receipt of the order, following established process, we have notified the affected developer and have blocked access to the app that remained available on the Play Store in India.
Whereas Apple, on the other hand, still hasn’t revealed an official statement regarding the matter.
Krafton In Talks With The Government
The BMGI developers, Krafton, are currently in talks with the government authorities to rescind the ban and bring it back. Krafton said that they were also unaware of why the app was removed from both the app stores. They further said,
We are clarifying how BGMI was removed from Google Play store and the App store and will let you know once we get specific information.
Is The Government Order Permanent?
As of now, the ban hasn’t been a permanent move. Though no one is still sure as to why the Play store removed the game, we can safely assume that it happened because BGMI failed to follow some rules or guidelines. This is not the first instance that Google has banned a game.
In such cases, app developers work closely with the government to resolve the issues. However, according to a report by Reuters, it stated that the Indian government still hasn’t responded yet to Krafton’s query.
BMGI Blocked But Still Playable
Following the ban, new users can no longer access BGMI for download on both the Google and Apple App Stores. However, despite this, users who already have the game installed on their devices can still play it. Players have stated that they have received an update and will have to login all over again.
