In a statement sent by the NBA, Blanks’ family confirmed that he passed away on Wednesday in Dallas. Expressing his grief on his death, NBA executive Joe Dumars said,
Lance was a light for all those who knew him. It’s been a privilege to have called him one of my closest friends. I’m eternally grateful for all the support he has shown me throughout the years. His legacy will be carried on, not only by his family, but by all those whose lives he touched for the better.

He was born on September 9, 1966, in Del Rio, Texas, U.S. His father’s name is Sidney Blanks, who was an American football player, whereas his mother’s name is unknown.
After completing his schooling at McCullough High School in The Woodlands, Texas, Lance Blanks attended the University of Virginia and the University of Texas.
He was married, and his wife’s name is Renee. They are the parents of two kids named Riley and Bryn. While Riley was a four-star recruit for the University of Virginia tennis team and is currently the founder of Woke Beauty, not much is known about Bryn.
His height was 6 feet 4 inches or 1.93 meters, and his weight was 190 lbs or 86 kg. He died on May 3, 2023. At the time of his death, he was 56 years old.

Lance Blanks represented two colleges, the University of Virginia and the University of Texas at Austin, where he established himself as the eighth-leading scorer and leader in career thefts. After his college career, he played for the Pistons and the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA for three seasons.
Later, he pursued a career in management, working as the Phoenix Suns’ general manager from 2010 to 2013. He formerly held the positions of director of scouting for the San Antonio Spurs and associate general manager for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
During the 2004–05 season, he worked as a television commentator for the Spurs. He started working for the Longhorn Network in 2020 as the Texas Longhorns’ television commentator, and he held that job until his death in 2023.
