The 18-year-old striker put United ahead with a clever goal in the first half of their 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.

Having made several recent appearances off the bench for Erik ten Hag’s senior team, Wheatley celebrated with Palmer’s “cold” gesture, highlighting his confidence.

Chelsea responded at the beginning of the second half, with new senior debutant Josh Acheampong finding the net. However, United reclaimed the lead in the 55th minute through Ethan Williams.

The Young Devils held on to secure victory and claim the trophy. Big things are expected from Wheatley, who has made substitute appearances against Arsenal, Crystal Palace, and Sheffield United.

He might be rested for Wednesday’s game against Newcastle. However, with United heading to Brighton on Sunday for the final match of the season, some fans believe Wheatley deserves a start.

This comes as current No. 1 striker Hojlund has scored just once in his last ten games. The Dane appears to be struggling with confidence, having netted only 14 goals in all competitions.

Fans Reaction

Some fans think it’s time for Wheatley to be given a chance up front. One fan said, “Start him ahead of Hojlund.”
