The latest setback for Emma Raducanu, a former US Open champion, has ended a season marred by injury. The 19-year-old has broken her silence to say that she won’t be attending this year’s Cluj-Napoca tournament, which was one of two tournaments she had planned to compete in.
In her attempt to defend her US Open championship last month, the World Number 67 was defeated in the opening round. A left glute injury prompted her to quit in the third set of the last four match at the recent Korea Open, despite the fact that she appeared to have turned a corner after winning three matches on her way to the semi-final.
Despite her injury, the teenager immediately resumed play in this week’s Agel Open in the Czech Republic, where she was defeated by world No. 11 Daria Kasatkina 5-7,4-6. To attend the Transylvania Open, though, a journey to Romania had been scheduled for the following week.
The tournament announced Raducanu’s withdrawal via their official Twitter account saying, “Sadly, Emma Raducanu is forced to withdraw from Transylvania Open due to a wrist injury.

When will Emma Raducanu return to tennis?
2022 hasn’t been as kind to the 19-year-old, as her season has been marred by a spate of injuries and retirements.
The PA news agency reports that Raducanu’s injury will also prevent her from competing in what was supposed to be her final WTA tournament of the season in Guadalajara later this month.
The management of Raducanu has since announced that she won’t compete in any further WTA-level matches this year, according to Simon Briggs of The Telegraph.
The Billie Jean King Cup finals in Glasgow at the beginning of next month are something that Great Britain’s captain, Anne Keothavong, is hoping Raducanu will be able to play in. But Raducanu’s club might want to rest the promising player for the rest of the year so that he can return rested and ready to go for the Australian Open in January.
