On Wednesday, October 5, Elijah DeWitt is thought to have been fatally shot by two adolescents in a shopping centre parking lot. As Jefferson’s senior wide receiver passed away, the Jefferson and Northeast Georgia communities mourned his passing. On Sunday, October 9, a candlelight tribute honouring DeWitt drew close to 100 attendees.

In remembrance of his kid, Dawn DeWitt remarked, “We sense a huge, lonesome vacuum that is absolutely immense.” Our hearts are torn since we adored our son so much. I’m thinking, “Wait, I need to see what time he’s coming home,” and I understand that I won’t send that text again. I simply want people to remember him as Elijah DeWitt, who was “a driven, gifted, kind, and gentle soul.” She said, “He is a gentle giant,” as reported by a leading channel, recalling Elijah’s large stature.

He had dreams of playing collegiate football at 18 years old when he was a great wide receiver at Jefferson High School. However, destiny had other plans for his life that were tragically cut short. Kemare Bryan, 18, and Chandler Richardson, 19, have been detained by police and accused of the teen’s murder.
Thousands of friends and family members will attend DeWitt’s funeral on Wednesday in Jefferson High School’s auditorium. When the incident happened outside the Lawrenceville Dave & Buster’s and Sugarloaf Mills Mall, DeWitt was there with his girlfriend, Bailey Reidling. Reidling’s screams could be overheard when someone dialled 911 to report an emergency.
In an interview, DeWitt’s mother discussed his goals and future intentions. She said, “He was passionate about football,” according to Dawn, who added that his ultimate dream was to play in Division 1 football.
Remembering The Kindest Man
According to Dawn, who also noted that he liked people, Elijah was the kindest person. She remarked, “He was fearless and so full of life.” “He really loved life. I honestly wish I could just go back in time because it was such an honour to be a part of the experience.”
