Although she hasn’t been the most dominant player this year, the Kazakh had the best performance of her young career at Wimbledon. Rybakina became the first representative of her country to win a Grand Slam singles championship when she defeated Ons Jabeur in the grasscourt Major final.

Meanwhile, with back-to-back victories at the Citi Open and Tennis in the Land, Samsonova has recently put on some very spectacular performances. Without losing a single set, she triumphed in the latter competition. The Russian then participated in the US Open and advanced to the round of 16 with victories over Sara Bejlek, Leylah Fernandez, and Aleksandra Krunic in straight sets. Her 13-match winning streak ended when she was defeated by Ajla Tomljanovic in the fourth round.

Given that the players don’t have much of a gap between them, the contest should be fascinating. Although Samsonova has been playing well recently, winning 13 of her last 14 matches in her last three events, Rybakina has won a Grand Slam this season. The Kazakh will try to maximise the effectiveness of her potent groundstrokes in addition to her effective serve. Rybakina’s poise on the court will also be helpful if she finds herself in a difficult situation throughout the match.

Samsonova possesses a powerful and effective serve and during her match against Leylah Fernandez at the US Open, the Russian aced 11 shots. The Russian will try to win points with his strong and efficient forehand. It can ultimately come down to who has the better mental fortitude. The season has seen some strong performances from both players, but Rybakina’s poise and ppower-hittingmight be just enough to advance her to the next round.
