Durand Cup is the oldest football tournament in Asia and this year was it’s 130th edition. The Cup started in 1888 and also happens to be the third oldest professional football competition in the world. Currently it is held as a pre-season knockout tournament before the start of domestic football season in India.

The 2021 Durand Cup saw 16 teams participate in the tournament. Five clubs were from ISL, three from I-League, two from I-league second division and also six teams representing the Indian Armed Forces. With that being said let’s know about the prize distribution in the Durand Cup.

Durand Cup winner prize money distribution

The Durand Cup currently has a prize pool of 70,00,000 INR ($98,000). Let’s take a look at how this money is distributed.

  • Champions: The Champions of the tournament get 40,00,000 INR ($56,000).
  • Runners Up: The team which finished second gets exactly half of what the winning team gets i.e. 20,00,000 INR ($28,000).
  • Semi-finalists: Both the teams who got knocked out in the semi finals receive 5,00,000 INR ($7000).

There are several other rewards as well given at the end of the tournament. That are:

  • Golden Boot: Given to the top scorer of the tournament.
  • MVP/ Golden Ball: Given to the best player of the tournament.
  • Golden Glove: Given to the best goal keeper of the tournament.

Who will play in the final of Durand Cup 2021: Mohammedan SC vs FC Goa

The final of the 2021 Durand Cup will be played between Mohammedan SC and FC Goa. The final is set to take place on 3rd October. FC Goa have been undefeated throughout this tournament and are also coming on from a win against Bengaluru FC after a intense penalty shootout in the semi-finals.

Mohammedan SC on the other hand suffered one defeat in the group stages of the tournament. Mohammedan beat Bengaluru United at extra time in the semi-finals to also secure a place in the finals.

This means either one of Mohammedan SC and FC Goa are set to take home the 40,00,000 INR reward and the other will get 20,00,000 INR. Whereas, both Bengaluru FC and United will take home 5,00,000 INR for losing out in the semi-finals of the tournament.
