Kiran Navgire was one of the stars in Warriorz’s WPL 2023 opening victory while chasing the target of 170. Batting at No. 3, she produced a stunning knock of 53 from 43 balls when the team was reeling at 20/3 and her knock was studded with 7 fours and 3 sixes.
Kiran, whose full name is Kiran Prabhu Navgire was born in Solapur, Maharashtra on September 18, 1994. She is an Indian cricketer who presently plays for the Indian women team as well as the Nagaland team.
The player is widely popular for setting the record of highest individual score in women’s senior T20 Trophy. At the time, she scored an unbeaten runs of 162 for the Nagaland against Arunachal Pradesh, last year.
As per reports, so far, she is the only Indian player to score over 150 runs in a T20 match. The right handed batter’s father is a farmer in Solapur while her mother is a homemaker.
Apart from Kiran, her parents also had two son. Kiran first played cricket during her graduation days at the Savitribai Phule Pune University.
She even represented her University’s Cricket team from 2013-14 to 2015-16 season without any formal training. Later, she also represented Pune University in the athletic events such as Javelin throw, shot put and 100 meters.
Kiran received her first ever formal training at the Azam Campus, Pune, wherein she had undergone a two-year course in physical education.
Later, in 2018-19, she started her domestic career with Maharashtra’ Senior Women’s One Day League. During the 2021-22 Women’s Senior T20 Trophy, she decided to play for Nagaland as a guest player as she wasn’t getting enough chance with the team of Maharashtra.
During her time at Nagaland, she scored a total of 162 runs out off 76 balls against Arunachal Pradesh at the Barsapara Stadium, Guwahati, on April 15, 2022. After this she become the first Indian to score 150+ runs in a T20 innings.
Ahead of 2022 Women’s T20 challenge, Kiran was picked in the Velocity squad. While debuting against Trailblazers on May 26, 2022, she smashed 50 out off 24 balls. It was the fastest city in the Women’s T20 Challenge.
