Dipa Karmakar’s Family And Education

Dipa Karmakar hails from Agartala, Tripura, India. She completed her schooling at Agartala’s abhoynagar Nazrul Smriti Vidyalaya and further did her graduation from Women’s College of Agartala in a subject of bachelor of arts and MA in political science. Dipa is an OBC gymnast and she follows Hinduism.

Dipa was born to Dulal Karmakar who is a weightlifting coach at SAI and her mother’s name is Gita Karmakar. Dipa’s height is 4 feet 11 inches and her weight is approximately 50 kg as of 2022. She is also known as Guddu. She is single and unmarried at at the moment.

Dipa Karmakar Professional Career And Achievements

Dipa Karmakar is the first Indian female athlete to win a bronze medal in gymnastics, competing at international events. Dipa clinched a bronze medal at the 2014 commonwealth games which were held in Glasgow. She also achieved the distinction of becoming the 3rd woman on the globe who successfully landed the Produnova vault, which is known to be one of the hardest vaults.

Dipa has had interest in gymnastics since a very young age and she started practicing it when she was just 6 years old. Further, she learned the basics of gymnastics at Vivekananda Byamagar in Tripura. Dipa came in the limelight when she was awarded with Junior National title in 2008. Dipa’s first experience at an international competition was in 2010 when she became a part of Indian gymnastics contingent at the commonwealth games held in Delhi in 2010.

She represented Tripura in 2011, Dipa Karmakar bagged gold medals in all rounds and in all four events namely floor, vaults, uneven bars, and balance beam. In 2015, she was regarded as the first ever Indian female who qualified for the final stage of the world artistic gymnastics championships held at Glasgow. She inspires the girls of her town to pick up the sport and also has an academy for it.
