The 27-year-old has picked up an injury at a very wrong phase of his career. The allrounder had a golden opportunity of replacing injured Ravindra Jadeja in the Indian playing XI. Team India tried Hooda in the Asia Cup 2022 in place of Jaddu which wasn’t very useful for Team India.
India will test thier bench strength in the South Africa series which might have given Hooda a chance to impress everyone. It looks like his back injury has ruled out his chance of playing in the first team at the World Cup happening next month.

BCCI confirmed with a post on thier social media handler that Deepak Hooda will miss out on the 3rd game due to injury. The latter didn’t play the first 2 T20s due to the same reason.

Axar’s amazing performance has made Hooda’s chances timid in the Playing XI
The player of the series of India vs Australia series Axar Patel has made the selectors think about him as thier main spin bowling all-rounder for the World Cup. Axar’s bowling ability is way better than Hooda who is a part-timer. When it comes to batting Hooda does have the upper hand over Axar but it doesn’t seem like it will give the right balance to the team.
India’s injury woes continue ahead of the World Cup
The team India is having injury concerns for a long time now. Deepak Hooda is injured and Mohammad Shami has tested positive for Covid 19. The 2 might miss out on the South Africa T20 series but can be available in the ODI series.
Hardik Pandya and Bhuvenshwar Kumar will also miss the South Africa T20 series as the two are currently in NCA for conditioning.
