Charlotte officially introduced Smith through a series of photographs capturing him signing a contract and donning the team’s shirt on Tuesday.
Despite his prior experiences battling relegation in managerial roles, a peculiar set of clauses in his contract has caught the attention of observant fans. While his salary isn’t known yet, he was paid $1.8 million annually at Norwich City and has a net worth of 9 million pounds.
Under the section titled “With this contract you agree to the following,” the first three points appeared standard, but the fourth point introduced an unusual requirement: “Sir Minty is allowed to have a recurring weekly meeting with you.”
Contract Obligations
Adding a touch of humor, the final bullet point stated that Smith was obligated to participate in one TikTok video per month, subject to the discretion of the social media team.
This lighthearted condition was promptly followed by a disclaimer: “Not really, it’s fine.” Further amusingly, the contract, humorously referred to as the “sacred text,” could potentially be won by a fan.

Who is Dean Smith?
For those unfamiliar with him, born on 19 March 1971, Dean Smith is a former English professional football player and current head coach of Major League Soccer club Charlotte FC.
Commencing his playing journey as a defender with Walsall in 1989, Smith accumulated 166 league and cup games over five years. In 1994, he transitioned to Hereford United, amassing 146 appearances in three years before making a move to Leyton Orient.
During his six-year tenure with Orient, Smith contributed 309 appearances in various competitions. In 2003, he transferred to Sheffield Wednesday, concluding his playing career with a stint at Port Vale before retiring in January 2005.
Throughout his 16-year Football League career, Smith scored 54 goals across 566 league games.
